Human rights action and appeal to Scholz regarding Bećirović’s visit (7.5.)

"Border shifts cannot be tolerated"

On the occasion of the meeting between German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) is organizing a vigil in front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. You are cordially invited:

Thursday, May 7, 2024, starting at 2:30 pm, in front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin

“Chancellor Scholz should use this opportunity to emphasize that Bosnia and Herzegovina belongs to the EU – just like all other states of the Western Balkans. Border shifts cannot be tolerated,” stated Jasna Causevic, STP expert on genocide prevention and the Responsibility to Protect.

“All eyes are on you, Mr. Scholz! It is not enough to express unreserved support for democratic institutions, the rule of law, and human rights – there must be actions! Support the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in trying – together with the states of the Peace Implementation Council – to remove the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, from office,” Causevic appealed to Scholz.
“Recently, Dodik stated that the Bosniaks, who make up 50 percent of the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina, should live on 25 percent of the land. Dodik’s divisive politics and ongoing genocide denial must not simply be accepted,” Causevic stated.

Further, Scholz should advocate for an expansion of the EU Mission EUFOR. “In the currently very tense situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the presence of EUFOR is an important guarantee for maintaining security – the only possibility to ensure that the 150,000 Bosniaks who returned to the entity of the Republika Srpska after the war won’t have to live in fear of repression,” Causevic said. The President of the Republik Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has been planning a secession of the Serb entity from Bosnia and Herzegovnina for years.
