Today, the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) and the Syrian Kurdish Diaspora Network in Europe met in Berlin to protest against the upcoming visit of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. “The Turkish President is an Islamist hate preacher. At his command, the Turkish army commits daily war crimes against ethnic and religious minorities – and the air force is carrying out ongoing air raids on civilian targets in the Kurdish areas of northern Syria, which is still illegally occupied by Turkey,” emphasized Dr. Kamal Sido, the STP’s Middle East Consultant, in front of Schloss Bellevue today. “It is incomprehensible that our head of state and our head of government are rushing to shake this man’s hand. As long as he is in power, Turkey will not be a reliable partner for Germany, for Europe, or for NATO.” In Syria, Erdoğan is actively working against Europe’s security interests – in cooperation with Iran and Russia. Together with the Emir of Qatar, he is one of the most important supporters of Sunni Islamism.
