Invitation: Human rights action in Berlin (June 20)

Government consultations: Chinese crimes should be publicly condemned

On the occasion of the German-Chinese government consultations on June 20, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Hongkongers, and Chinese people are demanding the German Federal Government to issue a clear statement on the crimes committed by the Chinese government under party leader and head of state Xi Jinping. Attempts to ensure that the focus will only be on economic cooperation will be satirically reenacted with masks resembling Xi Jinping and Olaf Scholz. The organizations behind the human rights action cordially invite you:

On Thursday, June 20, 2023

from 10 am to 1 pm

diagonally opposite the Bundeskanzleramt

Otto-von-Bismarck-Allee, Berlin

The event – organized by the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP), the Uyghur World Congress, the Tibet Initiative Deutschland (TID), the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), Freiheit für Hongkong e.V., Hongkonger in Deutschland e.V., the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR), Sino-Euro Voices, the European East Turkestan Union, the Ilham Tohti Initiative, and the Federation for a Democratic China – is supposed to shine a light on the devastating human rights situation in China. The Chinese government is pursuing a brutal policy of assimilation in East Turkestan (Xinjiang), in Tibet, and in southern Mongolia, contravening the constitutional principles of bilingualism and the protection of cultures. Further, there are targeted attempts to destroy the civil society in Hong Kong.

The organizations are demanding that Germany, when dealing with China, should place more emphasis on the topic of human rights than on the profits of individual corporations such as Volkswagen Group. Otherwise, the fatal mistakes of Germany’s Russia-policy over the past decades will be made again. Further, the organizations are demanding that a common China-policy should be negotiated with Germany’s partners in Europe. Further, Chancellor Scholz should demand an end to the military threats against Taiwan.

A statement from the organizations on the German-Chinese government consultations can be found here.
