SOS Darfur: UN peace-keeping force now! - Invitation to the Human Rights Campaign

UN General Secretary Kofi Annan in Bonn

On the occasion of the inauguration of the UN campus in Bonn by UN General Secretary Kofi Annan and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel the Society for Threatened Peoples (GfbV) will this coming Tuesday (11.07.2006) be drawing attention with a human rights campaign to the genocide in Darfur and calling for the immediate sending of a UN peace-keeping force.

With the Reaper in his black cloak and with scythe and skeletons we shall recall the fact that since February 2003 some 400,000 civilians in the west of the Sudan have fallen victim to the murderous policies of the Khartoum government. Together with people from the Sudan we shall recall the failure of the United Nations in past genocides (Ruanda and Srebrenica). By using large-size photos of the victims of the genocide in Darfur we shall emphasize our demand for the immediate sending of a UN peace-keeping force to provide effective protection for the civilian population.

We invite you and your colleagues from the picture desks to our
