"Orhan Pamuk is a true European"

Nobel Prize for Literature 2006

Orhan Pamuk

The Society for Threatened Peoples (GfbV) welcomes the bestowing of the Nobel Prize on the Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk. "Not only in his sensitive work "Snow", which is placed in the multi-ethnic city of Kars in north-east Anatolia, but also in strongly committed public statements Pamuk has always spoken out for the peaceful living together of all the religious and ethnic communities of his country", said the GfbV General Secretary Tilman Zülch. Pamuk is not only a great Turkish poet, but a true European.
